Kantha Stitch Saree | Kantha Work Saree Online Shopping

Who knew one designer saree could take you around the world? This week we're heading back to Bangladesh to explore yet another gorgeous style from the region. Much like the Jamdani Saree, the Kantha Stitch Saree is exclusive to West Bengal and refers to the “kantha stitch," a particular style of embroidery.
What makes this type of embroidery so unique? It's not your everyday, run-of-the-mill stitch. Originally, the Kantha stitch was used to make quilts from recycled sarees. Women would layer and stitch old sarees together. But unlike a regular stitch, these layers were joined by embroidering patterns, resulting in an artistic and visually stunning quilt. Since this time, the medium has evolved from the everyday to the haute couture, with the intricate and colourful embroidery a staple in ethnic wear, including designer sarees.
